How the World's Top Memory Experts Concentrate and Remember Any Information at Will, and How You Can Too

Here’s just a taste of the memory methods you'll learn in this book:

  • How using your imagination to bring boring information to life can help you dramatically improve your attention span and recall

  • An incredible strategy for remembering numbers (the same system Kevin used to remember Pi to 10,000 digits and beat the world memory record by 14 minutes)

  • How to use a mental map to lock in and connect hundreds or even thousands of ideas in your long-term memory (this method will allow you to become a leading expert in your field faster than you ever dreamed possible)

Wonderful resource. As a college student I found this to be an invaluable resource. I have spent so many hours reading things, hearing things, only to forget them and have to study them all again come test time, and then forget them again after the class is over. Many college students seem shockingly ok with forgetting half of what they spent so much money to learn, I for one spent the money to know and remember what I have been taught. These techniques are worth a bar of gold.Good for remembering very basic things This book did nothing to help me remember the material I study for. I expected better techniques and stronger actionable material but I found none of it applied to me. Trying to remember Enterprise Linux, Puppet syntax and AWS best practices is not an easy task and using the "SEE" method. didn't help me remember any of that. However, this book is great for people who need to remember names and maybe a grocery list or two.Believe the hype on this one. When I first saw this book, I was very skeptical. There is a very bold insinuation made in the title. But because it was on sale on Kindle for $1.49 the day I bought it, I decided it was worth the purchase. A few days later, after finishing the book, I am ready to call this one of the best and certainly most useful non-fiction books I have ever read, and I am a very avid reader. If you allow this book to change the way you learn, then this book is easily worth 20x the cover price for the keys and tools Horsley provides you with because you'll finally be able to overcome that old adage that claims that we only use about 10% of our brains.Like most of us, I've always just accepted the limitations that seem inherent with owning a brain, and I've become satisfied that I'll never be able to use more than "10%" as if it is not even realistic to tap into significantly more than that. However, this book invites you to throw away those limitations and strive for more. And Horsley's methods are not difficult to put into practice. They only require commitment, practice, and review. He compares it to taking your mind to the gym for a regular workout. Some of the strategies that he teaches near the beginning of the book may sound familiar to you, but read on. All the way through to the end. Have fun with the book. Practice what he is teaching you at each and every step along the way. You'll find some of the methods more useful to you than others, but you will find all of them legitimately helpful. Use any information that you want to learn as your training material, and you will see for yourself that these methods work. I'm not even going to give you any examples in this review because you really need to experience it for yourself.I will say this... usually, after I read a book, I never read it again. Not so with this one. This book is worth my reading every week because I want to practice, learn, and remember all of these methods. Horsley says, "Your mind is the only computer in the world with this characteristic: the more you put into it, the more it holds." His methods illustrate this truth very clearly.I only wish I could have discovered this book when I was in high school or college. The great thing about learning though is that you always have opportunities to learn more, and all of us could use these methods to be more successful in any area of our lives, personal or professional. This book is going to open up an unlimited world to you, if you are willing to make some changes in the way you think.

Adequate Yearly Progress Pdf

ISBN: 1732098700
Title: Adequate Yearly Progress Pdf A Novel
Author: Roxanna Elden
Published Date: 2018-08
Page: 320

Roxanna Elden combines eleven years of experience as a public school teacher with a decade of speaking to audiences around the country about education issues. Her first book, See Me After Class, is a staple in school districts and educator training programs throughout the country, and her work has been featured on NPR as well as in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, Education Week, and many other outlets.

A workplace novel that captures teaching with insight, humor, and heart.

This perspective-hopping debut follows teachers at an urban high school as their professional lives impact their personal lives and vice versa.

Each year brings familiar educational challenges to Brae Hill Valley, a struggling high school in one of Texas's bigger cities. But the school's teachers face plenty of challenges of their own. English teacher Lena Wright, a spoken-word poet with a deep love for her roots, can never seem to satisfy her students that she's for real. Hernan D. Hernandez is confident in front of his biology classes, yet tongue-tied around thewoman he most wants to impress: namely, Lena. Down the hall, math teacher Maybelline Galang focuses on the numbers as she blocks out problems whose solutions aren't so clear, while Coach Ray hustles his football team toward another winning season, at least on the field. Recording it all is idealistic history teacher Kaytee Mahoney, whose blog gains new readers by the day but drifts ever further from her in-class reality.

And this year, a new celebrity superintendent is determined to leave his own mark on the school--even if that means shutting the whole place down. The fallout will shake up the teachers' lives both inside and outside the classroom.

Funniest, snarkiest book about teachers, hands down. This is definitely the funniest book dealing with teaching I've read yet. I was a teacher for 6 years and I can totally relate to everything in here! The bureaucratic nonsense, the testing overkill, the student behavior problems that somehow become a reflection of the teacher who sees them for an hour and a half every couple of days...It's so relatable, but also hilarious. The humor is really snarky and sarcastic. Teaching is the backdrop, and part of the plot, but there are also all these interwoven subplots--relationships starting and faltering and ending, rebellious kids, difficult sibling relationships--that keep it really lively and entertaining. I finished reading this in a couple of days. I would highly recommend it to any teacher, especially middle school or high school teachers, but I think it would still be funny and entertaining to non-teachers, especially parents of teenagers. This is spot on satire Never have I read a book that I could relate to more than this one. The characters, the insanity of "benchmarks" and testing culture, charter school threats...each detail is spot on in this witty and charming novel. Adequate Yearly Progress does not veer into silliness, though, and this is what I appreciate most. The level of satire is just enough to make any classroom teacher snort. However, the dialogue that a young, idealistic teacher encounters as she meets the parents of students fighting in her class could be verbatim from an experience that I had during my second year of teaching. It was uncanny. The characters are likable, and the ending is so, so brilliantly done. (I won't give anything away, but it made me laugh with its cleverness.) All in all, this was a fun and entertaining read for this career educator. The most absurd plot points involving teaching are actually pretty realistic. Some of the most surreal and over-the-top events in this book were actually on par with my own experiences as a teacher. Most of the teacher characters were not set up as either paragons or villains; at some point, the layers were peeled back to show how most of them got there. There were also some truly poignant moments. The resolution felt somewhat contrived to me - the ending is a bit too much like magical realism to fit the rest of the book’s tone - and no teachers I know have that much free time during weekday evenings hang out at clubs. But overall, an enjoyable read that also provoked some deeper thinking on my own profession.

Title: Feeding You Lies Pdf How to Unravel the Food Industry's Playbook and Reclaim Your Health
Author: Vani Hari
Published Date: 2019-02-19

“There are 3,000 food additives in our food supply, many of which have not been tested for safety, and the average American consumes three to five pounds of these chemicals a year. In Feeding You Lies, Vani Hari pulls back the veil of deception by the food industry, scientists, and the media designed to manipulate us and ignore the unnecessary harms in our food supply. The deep investigation of the actions of the media, food companies, and science to suppress the truth will shock you, make you stop and consider what you put in your mouth, as well as empower you with the tools and strategies to protect yourself from bad foods and lies. If you eat, read this book.”— Mark Hyman, M.D., #1 New York Times best-selling author of Food: What the Heck Should I Eat? and director, Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine“A tangled web of deception is unraveled in this provocative page-turner! My eyes are now wide open thanks to Vani’s tireless investigative work to expose the truth about the food we eat.”— Lewis Howes, New York Times best-selling author of The School of Greatness“With all the wrongdoings exposed in this book, it’s no wonder that so many are confused about what to eat! You’ll never walk into a grocery store with the same outlook after learning the revealing information presented in this thoughtful read.”— Frank Lipman, M.D., New York Times best-selling author of The New Health Rules and How to Be Well“Our food is making many of us fat, sick, and miserable; but it’s making certain companies billions of dollars. To us, the fact that disease rates are skyrocketing is a matter of life or death; but to them, it’s just a PR problem. This magnificent book by the courageous and brilliant food activist Vani Hari shows you how to see through the lies, how to know the truth about what you are eating, and how to feed yourself and your family foods that will truly nourish your body, your mind, and your spirit.”— John Robbins, co-founder and president of Food Revolution Network and best-selling author of Diet for a New America“The tobacco industry survived for decades by marketing ‘doubt as our product.’ Big Food is following in their footsteps. I am grateful to Vani Hari for exposing the abuse of trust and the descending health of the public at the hands of Big Food. Her simple Three Question Detox is a platform to upgrade the health of your family. Everyone should read this book.”— Joel Kahn, M.D., FACC, clinical professor of medicine, Wayne State University School of Medicine, and author of The Plant-Based Solution Vani Hari is a revolutionary food activist, a New York Times best-selling author, and was named one of the "Most Influential People On The Internet" by Time Magazine. She teaches people how to make the right purchasing decisions at the grocery store, how to live an organic lifestyle, and how to travel healthfully around the world. The success of her writing and investigative work can be seen in the way food companies react to her uncanny ability to find and expose the truth.Hari has influenced how major food giants like Kraft, General Mills, Subway, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, and Starbucks create their products, steering them toward more healthful policies. Hari's activism has brought in worldwide attention as she has been profiled in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and more. Hari has appeared on Good Morning America, CBS News, NBC News, Fox News, The Dr. Oz Show, The Doctors, and CNN. She lives in North Carolina and also is the founder of Truvani, a start-up offering real food without added chemicals, products without toxins and labels without lies.

This follow-up to New York Times bestseller The Food Babe Way exposes the lies we've been told about our food--and takes readers on a journey to find healthy options.

There's so much confusion about what to eat. Are you jumping from diet to diet and nothing seems to work? Are you sick of seeing contradictory health advice from experts? Just like the tobacco industry lied to us about the dangers of cigarettes, the same untruths, cover-ups, and deceptive practices are occurring in the food industry. Vani Hari, aka The Food Babe, blows the lid off the lies we've been fed about the food we eat--lies about its nutrient value, effects on our health, label information, and even the very science we base our food choices on. You'll discover:

  *  How nutrition research is manipulated by food company funded experts

  *  How to spot fake news generated by Big Food

  *  The tricks food companies use to make their food addictive

  *  Why labels like "all natural" and "non-GMO" aren't what they seem and how to identify the healthiest food

  *  Food marketing hoaxes that persuade us into buying junk food disguised as health food

Vani guides you through a 48-hour Toxin Takedown to rid your pantry, and your body, of harmful chemicals--a quick and easy plan that anyone can do. A blueprint for living your life without preservatives, artificial sweeteners, additives, food dyes, or fillers, eating foods that truly nourish you and support your health, Feeding You Lies is the first step on a new path of truth in eating--and a journey to your best health ever.

The Life of Frederick Douglass Pdf

ISBN: 0399581448
Title: The Life of Frederick Douglass Pdf A Graphic Narrative of a Slave's Journey from Bondage to Freedom
Author: David F. Walker
Published Date: 2019-01-08
Page: 192

“This incredible graphic novel shines a much-needed spotlight on one of America's greatest heroes. The Life of Frederick Douglass deserves serious attention and David F. Walker is the perfect person to author this complex and compelling story.” —Brian Michael Bendis, author of Words for Pictures, writer of Superman, and co-creator of Jessica Jones  “The Life of Frederick Douglass humanizes the national icon of the abolitionist movement and restores a reflective realness to the man whose life still teaches us the meaning of moral conviction, determination, and service. Douglass lived his life at the epicenter of a defining age in American history and through his voice and words we walk alongside him on his journey through the encounters, struggles, and triumphs that shaped this country. Douglass first emancipated his mind through literacy, then his physical self by escaping enslavement as a runaway, setting off a lifelong quest for freedom and opportunity for people of color. Walker’s narrative reads like a fireside chat with the grandfather of the abolitionist movement and illuminates dark corners of American history with the soulful reflection and truth-telling. This masterful story of emancipation draws from Frederick Douglass’ epic life to capture our national history through his personal narrative. This graphic narrative should be in every classroom in America! Douglass’ life story illuminates how great men, women, and indeed nations are born of moral struggle, perseverance, and progress.” —Deirdre Lynn Hollman, educator and founder of The Black Comics Collective “A beautifully accessible and compelling graphic work that delves into the scathing truths that helped build our country. This is our collective story, as told through the eyes of one of the most important American citizens in the history of our nation. Walker, Smyth, and Louise expertly relate the unspeakable traumas of slavery while driving home the true meaning of the American Dream for future generations." —John Jennings, artist of Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation, co-editor of Black Comix Returns and The Blacker the Ink  DAVID F. WALKER is an award-winning comic book writer, filmmaker, journalist, and educator. Walker is best known for his work in comics, including Shaft: A Complicated Man (Dynamite Entertainment), winner of the 2015 Glyph Award for Story of the Year, and its sequel, Shaft: Imitation of Life. His work for Marvel Comics includes Luke Cage, Occupy Avengers, Power Man and Iron Fist, Nighthawk, Fury, and Deadpool. He's also worked for DC Comics (Cyborg), Boom! (Planet of the Apes), and IDW/Monkeybrain (The Army of Dr. Moreau). He is the creator of the prose YA series The Adventures of Darius Logan, and author of the novel Shaft's Revenge, the first new novel starring the iconic black detective in more than forty years.DAMON SMYTH is an illustrator and comic book artist. MARISSA LOUISE is an illustrator and colorist whose color work has appeared in comics and graphic novels from Dark Horse, Image Comics, and BOOM! Studios, among others.

A graphic novel biography of the escaped slave, abolitionist, public speaker, and most photographed man of the nineteenth century, based on his autobiographical writings and speeches, spotlighting the key events and people that shaped the life of this great American.

Recently returned to the cultural spotlight, Frederick Douglass's impact on American history is felt even in today's current events. Comic book writer and filmmaker David F. Walker joins with the art team of Damon Smyth and Marissa Louise to bring the long, exciting, and influential life of Douglass to life in comic book form. Taking you from Douglass's life as a young slave through his forbidden education to his escape and growing prominence as a speaker, abolitionist, and influential cultural figure during the Civil War and beyond, The Life of Frederick Douglass presents a complete illustrated portrait of the man who stood up and spoke out for freedom and equality. Along the way, special features provide additional background on the history of slavery in the United States, the development of photography (which would play a key role in the spread of Douglass's image and influence), and the Civil War. Told from Douglass's point of view and based on his own writings, The Life of Frederick Douglass provides an up-close-and-personal look at a history-making American who was larger than life.

Quick and easy read of a great American hero This is an easy and enjoyable read about a true American Hero. The illustrations lend depth to the story. This book is a true telling of a part of American history usually left out of the classroom. Hoping it will inspire many to read Mr. Douglass's autobiography.Beautiful Book As soon as I took this book out of the package I was pleasantly surprised by how it feels in my hands. The cover is thicker than usual for a paperback, and the pages feel nice beneath my fingertips. It's a really well constructed, and well written graphic novel. The colors are vibrant, the artwork dynamic, and the story is, of course, timeless. I can't wait to share this with my children. An Important and accessible read This is a really well done telling of Douglass' life. The pictures make this very accessible to a wider age group and language ability level. I'm working with other teachers in my building to make this part of our middle school language arts and social studies curriculum next year. Walker takes us through Douglass's personal history but also provides the context needed to better understand Douglass's circumstances. We get a glimpse into American history and it's people through Douglass's lens. I appreciate Walker's introduction explaining that he wanted to capture Douglass's humanity, not the deification of the hero. I feel like we get that humanity through his voice, and the illustrations provide depth to the character and subtlety to the storytelling. Well done on all fronts.
