For the soup lover this is the perfect recipe book I love soup, whether broth with some noodles or a thick vegetable soup or a chowder or chili - if I can make a one pot meal and eat it with a spoon, I am happy. So this book got me really excited because it promised close to 100 recipes and yes, there were recipes that were new to me. Plus, the soups were recipes with healing functions such as support immune health. Happy to find new recipes! The book is organized that everything you need for a specific recipe is easily found on one page, ingredients, nutritional information and instructions. The recipes have a nice variety from traditional homecooking to exotic recipes such as Asian soups and of course vegetarian entrees are included as well. The soup lover will be happy to know that shortcuts are allowed, you can use store-bought broth and of course alter recipes based on what you have in your pantry. I usually alter recipes based on the vegetables I have at home rather than feel the need to purchase additional vegetables. I do recommend sticking to the spices as much as possible since that determines the flavor in the end, but of course if you have specific requirements such as low salt, soups are the type of recipe where you can slightly adjust recipes to meet any dietary needs. In summary, this is a great book for moms that need to have slow cooker based recipes and soups are great for having homecooked dinners that even busy moms can have ready. The healing aspects of the soups, yes there is healing besides chicken noodle, was a nice bonus that just made the book so much better.I received a free copy from the publisher.Great Cook Book! I love making soup - especially during the colder months - and this book has tons of ideas. The two authors who collaborated on the book are Registered Dietitians, ensuring that the soups are healthy as well as tasty. The recipes come from around the world, and when ingredients are difficult to come by, suggestions are made for substitutions. Before you even get to the recipes themselves, there are 19 pages of useful information about inflammation, cultured and fermented foods, what makes soup healing and healthy, which ingredients to have on hand, kitchen tools, storage tools and tips, etc. Next comes a series of broth recipes that you can use as a base for heartier soups. I made a pot of Classic Vegetable Broth as the base of the Vegetable Lentil Soup, and it was really good! After that are the soup recipes themselves, and what a wealth of ideas and information! I really like that each recipe gives the prep time and cook time before the recipes. At the bottom of each, there are substitution suggestions, ingredient tips, and nutritional information, making the recipes very complete in every way. In addition to an amazing collection of soup recipes is a group of Meaty Soups and Stews. This is a cook book that's going to get a lot of use this winter! What I have made so far was outstanding, so I'm looking forward to trying many of these healing soups!I received a review copy of the book from the publisher with a request for an honest review, which this is!A little bit bland I have Cara Harbstreet's Pescetarian cookbook and love it! One of my favorite things about that cookbook is how creative the flavor combinations are. This book was a disappointing follow up. I was not pleased with how predictable many of the recipes were (cream of mushroom, chicken noodle, tomato basil, miso, matzo ball). It's also not much on the "boost immunity and restore health" side of things. She talks a bit about inflammation (pages 5-8) but beyond that it's really just a basic soup cookbook. If you look hard enough there are some interesting sounding recipes, and we tried some. Most were quite tasty; a few were bland but that you could change by putting in more of the spices. Here are the recipes we have tried from this cookbook:Sun-Dried Tomato and Kale Vegetable SoupSpicy Sweet Potato Peanut SoupVegetarian Moroccan-Style StewGinger Couscous Meatball SoupSweet Potato ChiliAll in all, I would get this if you're looking for a soup cookbook with recipes inspired by flavors from all around the world. I think the authors tried hard to be multicultural. I would not get this if you're specifically looking for recipes infused with healing ingredients. Try The Herbal Medicine Cookbook: Everyday Recipes to Boost Your Health by Tina Sams instead. I received a free advance copy of this book from the publisher and am giving a non-compulsory honest review.

Title: Permanent Record Pdf

Edward Snowden, the man who risked everything to expose the US government’s system of mass surveillance, reveals for the first time the story of his life, including how he helped to build that system and what motivated him to try to bring it down.

In 2013, twenty-nine-year-old Edward Snowden shocked the world when he broke with the American intelligence establishment and revealed that the United States government was secretly pursuing the means to collect every single phone call, text message, and email. The result would be an unprecedented system of mass surveillance with the ability to pry into the private lives of every person on earth. Six years later, Snowden reveals for the very first time how he helped to build this system and why he was moved to expose it.

Spanning the bucolic Beltway suburbs of his childhood and the clandestine CIA and NSA postings of his adulthood, Permanent Record is the extraordinary account of a bright young man who grew up online—a man who became a spy, a whistleblower, and, in exile, the Internet’s conscience. Written with wit, grace, passion, and an unflinching candor, Permanent Record is a crucial memoir of our digital age and destined to be a classic.

Title: The Whole Fish Cookbook Pdf New Ways to Cook, Eat and Think
Author: Josh Niland
Published Date: 2019-09-17
Page: 256

'Here's one of those rare books that teaches you the basics. An inspiring read, and something to return to again and again - these pages are sure to be worn down quick.' -Rene Redzepi, chef and author'I have followed Josh for such a long time and adore him and his use of every part of a fish - what a trailblazer he is . this book is for home cooks as much as chefs and I applaud it.' -Maggie Beer, author'I have been racking my brain trying to think of an American restaurant that comes close to the inventiveness and deep consideration that seafood is afforded at Saint Peter, to no avail ... Saint Peter is proof that when it comes to the modern dedicated seafood restaurant, Australia does it best.' -Besha Rodell, The New York Times'Well that was a smack around the head! This book is a game changer! Josh has basically taken all the old ways of fish prep and cookery and thrown the bad ones out the window then turned what remains on its head. This book is such an eye opener for me personally and at the same time makes so much sense when Josh explains how he thinks about the world of seafood. This is a very, very special book and in many years to come, I will look back at this moment in time and say to myself, "Remember that time when Josh from Saint Peter brought that book out and we all had to rethink the way we prepared and cooked fish and seafood forever?" Thanks Josh and to all the team at Saint Peter for sharing this knowledge with us!' -Nathan Outlaw, chef and author'To desire simplicity is a very complex exercise. Josh Niland is an inspiration to our profession. In The Whole Fish Cookbook he offers us a wealth of enjoyment and enthusiasm. In a compelling way, he shows us that with time and patience you can discover the real depth of flavour.' -Bo Bech, chef and author'There's no other chef in the world that I would rather have scale me with his knife, dry-age me, roast me, glaze me, rest me, slice me, serve me than this powerful spirit! Thank you Josh for paying attention and caring the way you do! You are a shining light!' -Matty Matheson, chef and author'Josh Niland is a genius.' -Nigella Lawson, author'Josh Niland can coax deliciousness from fish eyeballs, swim bladders and even fish blood with confidence and elegance ... his endeavours, sometimes hauntingly visceral, other times plainly cheeky, [are] always beautiful and restrained. His approach is going to change the way the world thinks about cooking and eating seafood.' -Melanie Hansche, Food & Wine'If you love cooking fish, this book will be a revelation. You'll learn about dry-ageing to concentrate flavour and using every part but the bubble from the fish's mouth!' -Rick Stein, chef and author'Equal parts comprehensive technical manual and a giant porthole into creativity, chef Niland's honest and pure approach to all things fish is inspiring. The Whole Fish Cookbook beautifully articulates the entire animal approach while methodically opening the reader's mind to how responsibility and innovation coexist.' -Grant Achatz, chef and author. Josh Niland is the chef/owner of Saint Peter, a fish restaurant that opened in Sydney to widespread critical acclaim in 2016. In doing so, Niland started a conversation around boundary-pushing seafood, as well as winning every significant award in Australia for his world-leading approach to using the whole fish and wasting nothing. In 2018, Josh opened The Fish Butchery – Australia's first sustainable fishmonger – which sells dry-aged, cured and smoked fish and offal to an eager public as well as supplying a number of Sydney's best restaurants. In 2019, his work was also recognized by the inaugural World Restaurant Awards, where he was shortlisted in the ethical thinking category. The Whole Fish Cookbook is his first book.

We all want to eat more fish, but who wants to bother spending the time, effort and money cooking that same old salmon fillet on repeat when you could be trying something new and utterly delicious?

In The Whole Fish Cookbook, Sydney's groundbreaking seafood chef Josh Niland reveals a completely new way to think about all aspects of fish cookery. From sourcing and butchering to dry ageing and curing, it challenges everything we thought we knew about the subject and invites readers to see fish for what it really is – an amazing, complex source of protein that can, and should, be treated with exactly the same nose-to-tail reverence as meat.

Featuring more than 60 recipes for dozens of fish species ranging from Cod Liver Pate on Toast, Fish Cassoulet and Roast Fish Bone Marrow to – essentially – the Perfect Fish and Chips, The Whole Fish Cookbook will soon have readers seeing that there is so much more to a fish than just the fillet and that there are more than just a handful of fish in the sea.

It's okay, but I have read better. I needed to read this for a class I was taking in college. However, apart from the class, the stories were all dark, slow, and depressing. While, I can look past that I wish the character development was more complex and there would have been lots of different moods of short stories not just dark ones. I did like that it including lots of genres of short stories since thats pretty uncommon to find in one book. But, since I read a lot, I was hoping that this book would contain more short stories than ones I have read in the past, but it contained many of the same ones I had already read before. I ended up buying a different short story anthology and loving that one much better.excellent Got mine as used and it's a great read, full of stories that involve the reader.Though I did enjoy this collection of stories Very diverse group of stories which makes for some very interesting reads. Not all of the stories were to my taste, but I could definitely appreciate the literary devices employed within each. This was a textbook for an english class so that is what I am basing my review off of, not as a casual reader. Though I did enjoy this collection of stories.
